Emptiness

Stefan Applis

Stefan Applis is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and its Didactics at the University of Münster. His work focuses on the influences of tourism on different places and spaces in Georgia, currently on the mountain regions of Svaneti and Tusheti; he is particularly interested in recording conflicts over the interpretation of social spaces. Stefan is the author of a geographical-ethnographic travel guide for Svaneti (2021). In his long-term project on Tskaltubo, he documents the lives of the internally displaced people and their descendants from the Abkhazian war and how they deal with the efforts of the government and international investors to make Tskaltubo the spa capital of Eastern Europe.
