The ‘EMPTINESS: Living Capitalism and Democracy after Postsocialism’ project (2020-26) was funded by the European Research Council’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement no. 865976). Dace Dzenovska, Associate Professor in the Anthropology of Migration, was the PI. The project was based at the Centre for Migration, Policy & Society (COMPAS), School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography (SAME), University of Oxford. The project website was launched in Jan 2021 and ended in May 2026.
This archive of the project’s website, emptiness.eu, was crawled between Jan. 23 and Feb. 24, 2026 using the Browsertrix crawler. As a web archive, it reflects the state of the site at the time it was crawled. No further updates were made to the original site after it was crawled. This archive was created deliberately as a reflection of the finalized site content.
The archive of the Emptiness website is presented using the open source ReplayWeb player to deliver a WACZ file. It is presented inside an iFrame on the main page and can be browsed and navigated the same way the original website would have been. Known discrepancies or limitations to functionality are listed under the accordion fold-out ‘Known limitations.’ If at any time during browsing you encounter something that seems to be missing or not working as expected, be sure to check this list and see what workarounds might be possible.
As you browse the archive, you will see the embedded address bar change to reflect the current page.

Additionally, you will notice the primary address bar of the container page change to reflect the state of the archive. This longer URL can be used to share or cite a specific page within the web archive.

At the top right of the embedded archive, you can see options to ‘Purge Cache + Full Reload’ (useful if a page doesn’t seem to load), ‘Download Archive’ (note that the WACZ file that will be downloaded is large and not very human readable, but some advanced researchers may enjoy parsing data from these kinds of files), view ‘Archive Info’ (e.g. hash, metadata, etc.), and learn ‘About ReplayWeb.page’ and view the version being used.
In this area, you can also see the timestamp (when the original page was crawled) and the option to make the archive full screen.
On the left side of the embedded address bar are options to navigate backward and forward and to refresh the page (helpful if a page doesn’t seem to load). An additional icon lets you expand an added feature panel. In this panel, you can see bookmarks for every page of the site included in the archive, and you may also use the search bar to find specific text within any page. This is a useful feature to replace the non-working ‘Authors’ filter on the ‘Publications’ page.
The following list is duplicated from the accordion fold-out on the main archive page.
